Keeping the Décor Intact When Moving Home Decoration Home Furniture Home Improvement by Susan Papes - July 29, 2015November 17, 2015 Keeping the Décor Intact When Moving Moving house can be quite troublesome, especially when you are used to the very specific way your house looks. Many of the decorations in your house are hand-picked by you, and you like how they look where they are now, so will there be a possibility to retain that look? All these questions and issues will plague your mind when the time for changing the scenery comes. There are some ways to try and avoid visual changes as much as you can by looking for a house similar to yours, but that is a rare option, especially if you are changing the town as well. So get used to the idea that the order of the décor will change. Now you have to focus on getting it safe to its new place. Image – iStockphoto Hiring a moving company requires a bit of research. Give it your all to find a proper one that will do everything to keep your things safe. Asking around is the best place to start, especially if you know someone who has recently moved. Ask about a recommendation so that you can rest assured that the removal company you are about to use is reliable. If you have to do it yourself, look for experienced companies that have been around for a while, and, just to be sure, check all their legal papers and insurance documents, and even call the insurance company to confirm they are legit. Also, make sure the company you use will send over a consultant or a contract manager with whom you can set all the details about the move straight and who will oversee the moving process. Set a date and a time for the move, and get an approximate price that you will have to pay for the move to be sure it is within your ability. Now comes the hard part. The moving checklist is something very important, so keep in mind that you have to put down every single thing you want moved to the new house. Go around the house and write down everything, and then make a copy for the moving company. The company will not be responsible for anything missing that is not on the list, so double-check it if you have to, just be sure that all your things are on it. Use boxes, and not bags, they are much more compact and much more reliable, not to mention easy to organise. But you should also use bubble-wraps for the more fragile items, and carefully order them inside the box along with others like them. Remember to label the boxes! The movers have to know which boxes are filled with fragile items and which boxes should go on the bottom. After all that, you only have to wait for the date to come and the movers to come knocking at your door. Help them with the loading and be careful while taking things from the house – you might want that deposit back, and that will not happen if you start scraping walls. Once everything is loaded and secured, you can travel to your new house and start organising the safely transported décor just the way you like it. Read more at: manwithvanbelsizepark.co.uk
