Five Weekend Projects Every Homeowner Should Do Once A Year

The weekend is the perfect time to get all of those home projects out of the way that are on your to-do list. You may be too tired to tackle them after a hard day at the office, but you will have plenty of energy to do them on the weekends. Here is a look at five weekend projects every homeowner should do once a year.

1. Improve Your Landscaping

Landscaping projects increase the curb appeal and resale value of your home. Make sure to attempt a major landscaping project at least once a year. Making your yard look great is not something that has take all of your weekends. Consider tackling smaller projects that make a big difference, like planting a tree and flowers, tending the walkway and adding decorations like fountains. You will have to maintain the yard to keep it looking nice, but these are just a few things you can do to add to the curb appeal of your home.

2. Varnish Your Deck

You should throw on a fresh coat of varnish to your deck yearly to protect it from the the elements of weather and wear. When you regularly apply varnish to your deck, it will greatly extend the life of your deck and save you money in the long run with bigger repairs. Applying a nice coat of varnish will also make sure that your deck looks its best.

3. Clean Your Ductwork

The ducts and vents in your home will build up lots of dust over time. Once a year, you should make sure to thoroughly clean all the ducts and vents in your house. Doing this annual cleaning will help to make the air quality in your home as pure as possible to prevent allergens. This cleaning is very important if you have a family member in your home who is sensitive to dust or suffers from allergies.

4. Clean the Gutters

It’s important to keep your gutters clean to avoid flooding in your home. Standing water around your home caused by clogged gutters can leak into your basement and damage your foundation. Professionals at Seamless Gutters in Denver suggest making sure you get up on the roof to inspect and clean your gutters once a year. The best time to do this is right after fall, because piles of leaves are one of the most common reasons gutters won’t work properly.

5. Paint the Inside of Your Home

You don’t have to paint every room in your home every year, but try to paint at least a few of the rooms in your house each year. This step will make your living space more beautiful, and it will keep the people who live in the house feeling happier. You could also consider adding an accent color to one of the walls in a room to add dimension and variety.

Keeping up with your home maintenance doesn’t have to be a huge effort. As long as you perform regular maintenance tasks when you have free weekends, you will be able to keep your home looking great. Doing these projects just once a year will make your home more livable and help to increase your home’s resale value.
