You are probably wondering what colour and style of carpet to have and how to go about your change. Here are a few ideas to get your juices flowing, so that you can start to create your own ideas.

Try the classic burgundy colour?

What about decoration consisting of a lounge burgundy colour with burgundy curtains and many smaller neutral colours with other decorations that fit harmonies with burgundy. This is very trendy when mixed with English style furniture and can continue into the kitchen with a light beech colour.

Try a three wall colour scheme?

You could have three sections of wall in white paint and the fourth opposite them in red. This is another trendy living room trick, which is best done if you have your sofa against the red wall, so that you are looking over towards the three white walls when you are watching TV. This is a good idea if you have red curtains, but not so great if you already have a red carpet. You could have a contrasting sofa colour too, to help pick out its detail when it is against the red.

A chocolate wall?

You can do a wall in chocolate colour. Choose a section of wall that is the most enlightened (preferably), it then reflects the light and it enlarges the room.

Tone it up?

If you have brightly coloured sofas then do not tone down the rest of your room. Why not have bold splashes of colour around the rest of the room so that the sofa does not look out of place. Don’t overdo it, but a for example a bright orange sofa could have a red rug underneath, with a more neutral colour underneath that.

Change the décor to match new furniture?

After buying furniture, some people will change the entire décor. You may like to put soft curtains up with burgundy roses cut in white veils to centre for the brightness coming through the window. You should probably paint the wall that the sofa has its back to, or wall paper it, otherwise your new sofa will lose its effect if it is surrounded by a tatty old wall. The other walls, you could paint in a deco style cream or beige.

Continue your colours?

If you have one colour for your furniture then continue the theme and have the same coloured ornaments around, with similar coloured lampshades, vases  and carpet too.

Mix colours?

Try a mix of colours, such as a mixture of dark greens on the walls with the brighter colours in the darker areas. Otherwise why not try a bold style such as red white and black, draped shamelessly across your room. You could go along a different route and have your room set a sober mood and harmonize with white walls, doors and off white curtains.
