Cramped spaces have always given me the claustrophobic feeling. A feeling too nauseating to be equaled to being confined within the uncomfortable prison cells. This can only be explained by the fact that in small space everything counts. Even a pen lying on the floor will seem to be clearly visible to the eyes.

Luckily, the creative instinct of our dear interior designers have found out ways to trick the eyes and make a room seem larger.

Colours and Contrasts

Light colours tend to make a room larger and brighter. It is simply based on the law of optical illusion. Brightly coloured walls are reflective in nature that helps to maximize the effect created by natural lights. This makes the room airy and spacious. For creating the maximum optimum effect, it is recommended to go for soft tones of blue and green. Do not go for dark colours as they absorb the light and make a room even smaller.

Light and Shine

Natural lights are the best way to lighten up your room. Their illuminating powers work wonders by opening up your room and making them seem larger. If you have a large window; well and good but if not, no worries as there is always the option to go for artificial lightings. Utilize those large windows that you have and let your room shine bigger. Make sure the curtains are pulled back. You can also go for hanging plants and flower pots if your window opens up to a very unpleasant view. Lamps will help in adding colour effects.

Cluttered rooms tend to make a room smaller. Therefore keeping your room tidy and organized is the best way to make it look large. Go only for one painting work if you want to accessorize the walls. A clutter of wall hangings will make it look untidy. Always create one focal point that will draw all the attention towards it. For a dining room, the focal point will be the dining table while for a bedroom it will be the bed. Keep the floor clear and keep the decor of the room to its minimum.

Mirror Magic

A mirror can work wonders. They reflect both natural and artificial lights that bounce deep into the room to make it look larger and brighter. Place a mirror near the window or on the walls and cabinet to create an illusion of more space.

Make sure your furniture does not block the pathways. If you can see the floor, the room will seem larger. Choose a sofa or chair with open arms. A glass table will give an open and free space. Lights filter the furniture making the rooms airier.

By following, these simple easy steps will do the trick. If you know some other tricks please post below.
