Hints on Designing a Dream Bedroom Home Decoration Home Improvement by Lillian Connors - July 11, 2016 Hints on Designing a Dream Bedroom People spend up to one-third of their lives asleep, and the place where that magic happens is the bedroom. This is the main reason to dedicate sufficient attention to your bedroom design. In order to get quality sleep and relaxing time, the room has to feel comfortable and soothing. The benefits of a well designed bedroom extend way beyond its doors. A good night sleep will keep you energized throughout the day and help you overcome all the challenges ahead of you. If you crave that energy-boost, we will help you to design a perfectly dreamy bedroom. There’s a reason why hotel rooms are designed to keep the circulation on one side of the room. It’s simple and it works. It gets a bit more complicated if you have a bathroom attached to your bedroom or doors to the outside. In that case organize the circulation in a way that the bathroom is accessed through the sleeping area or from a separate hall. A Room with a View If you are stuck in a room without windows and natural light, you are more prone to stress and anxiety. A large window with a nice view is also a great decorative edition, since it can serve as a focal point. Design your bedroom in a way that focuses on the window and make sure the window offers a pleasant view of the outside (e.g. your backyard). Separate your bedroom from the family room and other public spaces with a small foyer, so that no one can look directly into it from some of these rooms. A Connection with the Outdoors If you live in a pleasant climate and if your bedroom is on the ground floor, you can turn it into a peaceful oasis evoking the spirit of the Tropical countries. Add a set of French doors to make that connection and create an illusion of spaciousness. Another perk of this design element is that your room will get more natural light than from a window alone. The bed, of course, is the most important furniture piece, and you should adapt its size and material to room’s overall ambiance. Be smart with bedroom storage, because you do not want to overcrowd it with armoires, shelves and closets. Invest in a bed frame with several spacious drawers to save some space and not disturb your sleek design, advise the guys at BedWorks. As for the other pieces (nightstands, chairs, desk, etc.), make sure you have enough space to access the bed from all three sides of the mattress. When the Sun Is Down Of course, windows and French door will not help you in the evening, so you should consider how to introduce artificial lightto your bedroom. The best option would be to avoid fixtures with longer bodies and use shorter or flush-mounted ones. If your bedroom includes a sitting area, light that space with soft shaded fixtures (e.g. floor lamps). Opt for lights with softly diffused shade and never install a fixture directly above your bed. More light sources of lower wattage will have better effect than one with high wattage. Remember, when it comes to bedrooms, the most outstanding example of design is the one that requires little effort, not too much stuff and low maintenance. You will know when you reach that example – you will want to spend your days daydreaming and nights getting some quality sleep in it.
